Looking for free printable Father’s Day crafts for kids to make for Dad this year? Grab this Father’s Day tool box craft and have kids fill in the “tools” with their favorite things about Dad!
If your kids are anything like mine, then they love making homemade gifts for their family members. Everything from a rubber band bracelet for their cousin to a tuxedo card for their grandpa.
So each year when Father’s Day rolls around, they enjoy putting their DIY skills to the test and crafting something great for their Dad! In the past, they’ve painted ceramic plates with thumbprint “fish” and they’ve made paper neckties.
But this year, we’re keeping things easy with free printable Father’s Day crafts… And this Father’s Day toolbox craft fits the bill!
If you’re looking for fun printable crafts and templates for Father’s Day, then grab the toolbox template at the end of this post, and read on for how to make this tool box craft for Dad:
Supplies Needed:
- white card stock – I HIGHLY recommend that you print the toolbox and individual tools on card stock. Regular printer paper is too thin and your toolbox craft will wrinkle and not look as nice.
- crayons or colored pencils – Because you will write on the tools, I would suggest coloring with crayons or colored pencils. If you use markers, then you probably won’t be able to read the “All about Dad” writing on the tools.
- scissors
- glue stick – Or you can use regular Elmer’s school glue or a tape runner instead. You will just need some sort of adhesive to glue three sides of the toolbox together.

How to Make the Tool Box Craft for Father’s Day
Making this free printable toolbox craft is pretty self-explanatory using the template, but here are the steps and a few tips to get you started:
- Print the toolbox and tool templates on white card stock. There are 4 different pages, including the toolbox base, the toolbox front plate, and two pages of tools.
- Color the individual tools and both pieces of the toolbox.
- Write on each tool to personalize with messages that highlight Dad’s qualities, talents, and the things he loves. If needed, you can use a fine tip Sharpie marker so that the writing shows up through the coloring.
- Cut out the tools and the toolbox. Depending on the age of your kids, you may need to help with this part.
- Glue the rectangle piece that says “Father’s Day Tool Box” to the toolbox base, making sure that you only glue the two side edges and the bottom so that you can slide the tools into the top. *Only apply glue along the border where it says “Paste Here” on the toolbox base. Then, stick the front tool box piece to the glue.
When all of the pieces are colored and cut out, you can simply slide the tools into the top of the toolbox (in between the base piece and the front piece).
And when you’re done, Dad’s paper toolbox should look something like this:
