Calling all Halloween fiends! If you’re looking for a new way to make your Halloween celebrations even more spooktacular, you need to get involved with the internet’s new obsession – the boo basket. Add a selection of treats to a decorated basket and gift to your kids or boo for an adorable tradition you’ll love for years to come. Get tons of boo basket ideas here!
The leaves are falling, the Fall air is setting in, and we’ll soon be celebrating one of my favorite times of the year – Halloween. I love to go to town on the decorations, play games, dress up, and host parties featuring my fun-tastic Halloween popcorn bar.
And one of my new favorite things for this time of year is the boo basket. Now, I’m going to fess up and admit I had never heard of a boo basket before in my life. Until I was in Target, shopping with my teenage daughter. She started throwing fuzzy socks, candy corn, and a box of apple cider mix into the buggy and, when I asked her about it, she said she was making a boo basket for her boyfriend.
It was such a nice idea, so when we got home I started researching it online. And didn’t I feel like the fool when something I’d never heard of was the internet’s new obsession! Boo baskets for your loved one, kids, or bestie. Boo baskets filled with treats (or tricks!) Boo baskets for Halloween or to get cozy for Fall. I mean, these things are everywhere. Not to be confused with the “You’ve been booed” basket.
Aaaand, now I’m hooked. And you will be too.
What is a Boo Basket?
Boo baskets are the latest trend in seasonal fun, after getting super popular on social media (thanks again, TikTok!). The boo basket is a cute gift basket filled with Halloween or Fall themed treats, from candy to crafts to cozy accessories to toys – anything that would make your little monsters happy.
They’re kind of like an Easter basket or Christmas Eve box, but Halloween or Fall themed. Boo baskets are the perfect surprise for the ‘boo’ in your life on October 1st or Halloween morning, and a lovely annual tradition for you and your loved ones.
Boo Basket vs. You’ve Been Booed Tradition
Don’t get your boos confused!
Boo baskets are totally different to the ‘You’ve Been Booed’ tradition – which I also love by the way. That’s when you take your boos to the street! A few people in the neighborhood start the tradition, print out gift tags like the ones I made, make up a surprise basket, and leave it for a neighbor. Like a much nicer game of ding dong ditch!
Once you’ve booed a neighbor, they go on to boo someone else, and it’s a lovely way to bring everyone together and start a tradition of fun and giving in your community.
Boo baskets are more personal, intended for your kids or husband/boyfriend, to be enjoyed in the comfort of your own home.
Boo Basket Ideas for Your Boo
I think a boo basket for your significant other is best themed around Fall – unless they’re a real Halloween fan, I guess! Fall is the perfect theme for snuggling up and getting romantic. You can make things personal and pick out things you know your boo would love, but I’ll start you off with some general boo basket ideas:
- Fleece blanket – For snuggling in front of the fire.
- Fuzzy socks
- Starbucks gift card – Feed that pumpkin spice latte obsession.
- Scary film – A good excuse to cuddle up close to your boo.
- Bottle of wine – A nice warming glass of red is the perfect drink for Fall.
- Fall-scented candle – What’s more comforting than the smell of cinnamon, apple or caramel wafting through the air on a crisp Fall day?
- Face mask
- Hand cream – All the better for holding hands with your boo.
- Treats – Whether it’s a nice box of chocolates or a bag of Reese’s pumpkins, include your boo’s favorite Halloween snacks.
- Microwave popcorn and a bag of Fall M&M’s – Great for a romantic Fall movie night.
- Craft beers or drinks – A few bottles of his favorite craft beers or hard apple ciders, or for non-alcoholic options try pumpkin-spiced or autumn-flavored coffee or tea.
- Self care items – Like after shave or cologne.
Boo Basket Ideas for Your Kids
You can make your kids boo basket fall-themed and include some of the things I suggested above like fuzzy socks and a nice blanket, but I think we all know the kids would prefer a more Halloween-themed affair! Here are some of my favorite boo basket ideas for kids:
- Halloween stickers – Because name me a kid that doesn’t like stickers!
- Halloween coloring book and markers – Perfect for a rainy Fall day.
- Candy – Oozing brains, sour skeletons, zombie jelly babies – I’m all about the novelty Halloween candy.
- Halloween headbands – I have a really cute headband with fuzzy spiders, but you can get ones with monster eye balls, pumpkins or even bat wings.
- Hot chocolate – Put a packet of hot chocolate and mini marshmallows inside a big Halloween or Fall themed mug for little hands to wrap around.
- Halloween toys – Just little ones, it’s not Christmas yet! You could use key chains for kids’ backpacks, mini figures, soft balls, glow rings – basically anything you’d find in a Halloween-themed party bag!
- Halloween craft – You can buy really cute ready-made craft kits from the store, like paint your own pumpkin, make your own wizard lantern, or skull scratch art. I found some great options at Dollar Tree.
- Halloween book – Whether it’s Halloween themed ‘I Spy’ for younger kids, or a good ghost story for the older ones, a book is the perfect way to help your little ones relax at the end of a busy day of trick or treating.
- Halloween pjs – Because themed pjs may just be the cutest thing ever.
- Glow sticks – My kids LOVE glow sticks, whether it’s taking them out trick or treating, or bringing the atmosphere for a spooky story.
