You know that one friend that appreciates some good toilet humor, and isn’t afraid to laugh at himself? Well, this funny over the hill gag gift is perfect for them! Shopping for a big milestone birthday is difficult. Especially if the guest of honor already has everything they could ever need or want, and giving the typical bottle of wine or fancy liquor is out of the question.
“Holy Crap You’re Old” gift tags are popular and I knew that I wanted to go with a toilet paper cake with crap-themed gag gifts, but I also wanted to give a little something besides men’s diapers and Immodium AD. So I decided to add a fun pun to the tag and incorporate some lottery tickets to the “cake”.
And the result is this super cute Over the Hill gag gift with the PERFECT punny gift tag. This gift idea combines some potty humor in the form of stereotypical senior citizen needs, like prunes and gas relief meds, with fun scratch-off lottery tickets. Sure to be a hit for a 40th, 50th, 60th, or even 70th birthday gift!
Supplies Needed
You only need a few basic supplies to make this toilet paper cake “Crap you’re old” gift. Here’s what I used:
- large round cake circle or round piece of foam board – The diameter should be about 18-20″ across, depending on how large you want your “cake” to be.
- toilet paper – I used a total of 8 rolls for this toilet paper cake.
- wide ribbon – To wrap around the “cake tiers” as decoration.
- curling ribbon or bows – To decorate the TP cake.
- hot glue and glue sticks – To keep the toilet paper and ribbon in place.
- scratch-off lottery tickets – I used 10 different scratch off tickets to make my cake look full. You can get them for $1, $5, or $10 depending on your budget.
- upset stomach or bathroom-related supplies – Like prunes, anti-diarrhea medicine, adult disposable underpants, stool softener, or hemorrhoid cream. Anything to go with the “Crap You’re Old” theme!
How to Make a Toilet Paper Cake for the Over the Hill Gift
Making a toilet paper cake is super easy to do with a few basic supplies. Then, you just need to hot glue some small items to the tiers of the cake to go with your theme. Here’s how to make this easy Over the Hill gag gift:
Step 1: Make the round foam board base. If you don’t want to buy a round cake board or foam board, you can make your own with a piece of foam board from Dollar Tree. Just tie a piece of string around a push pin, and tie a pencil to the other end of the string. Hold the pin in the center of the board, and use the length of the string as a guide to draw a circle with the pencil. (Think of it like a protractor). Then just cut out the base.
Step 2: Stack toilet paper in a round pyramid shape. I used 5 rolls of TP on the base, 3 rolls on the second tier, and one roll on the top of the cake. If you’re going to add a larger item on top of the “cake”, like a pack of adult diapers, then you can leave off the top roll of toilet paper.
Step 3: Glue ribbon around the toilet paper cake. I hot glued a wider width ribbon around each “tier” of toilet paper. Not only does this add a bit of color and pizazz, it also doubles as a holder for your small gag gift items like lottery tickets and dried prunes. You can even customize the ribbon colors for the gift recipient.
Step 4: Insert lottery tickets and other gag gift items on the cake. For the smaller boxed items, you can slide them underneath the ribbon to keep them in place. For larger items, insert wooden skewers or straws into the toilet paper rolls, and then tape those items to the skewers.
The lottery tickets can easily be slid in between the toilet paper tiers or under the wide ribbon to hold them in place.
Step 5: Add the free printable gift tag to the toilet paper cake. Tape the back of the “Crap, you’re old!” gift tag to a long wooden skewer or a straw. Then insert the skewer into the top roll of toilet paper for a “cake topper”.
