Let me paint you a little picture. It’s the week before Mother’s Day, and someone in your house – let’s call him “Dad” – just realized he hasn’t planned anything for the kids to give you. Cue the frantic Googling, the last-minute trip to the dollar store for a card that will somehow cost $7.99, and the sad bunch of grocery store flowers that are already drooping by the time they reach your hands.

Sound familiar? (I’m laughing, but also crying a little.)

Well, friends, THIS is the post that’s going to save the day! These free printable Mother’s Day cards for kids are cute, creative, and – best of all – something your little ones can actually make themselves. No special supplies, no complicated instructions, and no more sad wilting carnations. Just download, print, and let the kids get crafting!

About These Printable Mother’s Day Cards

These DIY Mother’s Day cards are unlike anything you’d grab off a shelf at the store – and that’s exactly what makes them so special! The free printable template features 7 different card designs for kids to choose from, so even the pickiest little artist will find one they love.

Each design features an adorable teacup illustration with fun things spilling out of the top – think cheerful flowers, festive balloons, and sweet little candies. Every card also has a heartwarming sentiment printed right on it, like “I Love You Mom” and “Happy Mother’s Day”, so even the kids who aren’t quite ready to write their own message have something meaningful to give.

Here’s the really fun part: these aren’t just flat cards! Kids get to color the design, cut out the pieces, and glue them together to create a 3D keepsake card that Mom is going to absolutely love. It’s a craft and a card all in one!

Supplies Needed

  • The free printable template (link is at the bottom of this post!)
  • A printer and white cardstock (cardstock gives a sturdier, more polished finished card!)
  • Crayons, colored pencils, or markers – whatever your little artist prefers
  • Child-safe scissors
  • Glue stick or craft glue
  • Optional: Glitter, stickers, or other embellishments to add a little extra sparkle!

That’s it! Simple, easy, and totally budget-friendly. I love a craft that doesn’t require a special trip to the craft store.

How to Make the Printable Mother’s Day Cards

These cards are designed to be totally kid-friendly, but here’s a quick step-by-step to make the process as smooth as possible!

Step 1: Download and Print the Template

Click the link at the bottom of this post to download the free printable Mother’s Day card template. The file includes all 7 designs, so you can either print the whole set or just choose the page with your little one’s favorite design.

For the best results, print on white cardstock – it makes the colors pop and gives the finished card a much sturdier feel. I used 65 lb card stock, because that’s what goes through my home printer without jamming.

Step 2: Pick a Design

Let your child flip through the 7 adorable teacup designs and pick their favorite! Will they go with the flowers blooming out of the teacup? The balloons? The candy? This is seriously the cutest decision they’ll make all day.

(Pro tip: If you have multiple kids making cards, print a different design for each one so Mom gets a whole bouquet of unique cards!)

Step 3: Color the Card

Now comes the really fun part – coloring! Hand over the crayons and let your little one go to town. Encourage them to color every little detail – the teacup, the saucer, the little things spilling out the top, and any decorative elements around the design. The more colorful, the better!

Step 4: Cut Out the Pieces

Once the coloring is done, it’s time to cut! Help younger kids with the scissors as needed, especially for any smaller detailed pieces. Older kids can handle most of the cutting on their own.

Step 5: Glue It All Together

Now for the grand finale! Use a glue stick or craft glue to assemble the pieces of the card together. This is where the magic happens – once all the pieces are layered and glued down, the card really comes to life!

Let the glue dry completely before handing it over to Mom so nothing slides around.

Step 6: Sign and Gift!

Have your child sign their name on the inside of the card, and it’s ready to gift! This is the part where Mom will definitely tear up a little, so have the tissues ready.

Tips for Making the Most of This Craft

  • Let kids personalize their cards. Encourage your little ones to add their own doodles, stickers, or a sweet handwritten note to make the card feel extra personal.
  • Make it a group activity. This is a great craft for siblings to do together, a classroom Mother’s Day party, a Sunday school activity, or even a playdate! Print enough copies for everyone and let the kids craft away.
  • Frame the finished card. These designs are so pretty that they’re practically wall art! If you want to preserve the card as a keepsake, consider popping the finished card into a small frame so Mom can display it long after Mother’s Day is over.
  • Print extras! It never hurts to have a backup copy on hand in case of coloring mishaps or overly enthusiastic scissor use.
