Need a Halloween candy bowl sign to direct trick-or-treaters to take one or two pieces of candy while you’re away? Grab a free printable please take one Halloween sign, tape it to the front of your Halloween bowl, and hope you don’t run out of candy!

Every Halloween night, my husband and I take our two daughters Trick or Treating and, because the house is unattended, we leave out a bowl of candy for the Trick or Treaters. Whether we offer chocolate or fruity candy, each year when we return from our annual neighborhood candy sweep, our bowl is empty! Which made me think, with no explanation or guidelines, is everyone getting a fair chance at our candy – or are the neighborhood teens grabbing handfuls of sweets and moving to the next house?
So I decided I needed a sign, politely asking visitors to only take 1 or 2 pieces of candy. Because let’s be honest, the more leftover treats there are, the more I get to stash away in my secret nightstand drawer for while I’m binging Netflix.
Sure I could take a piece of cardboard and a Sharpie marker and make a ragtag ‘Please Take 1’ sign. But what fun is that – it’s boring, and throws off my carefully curated porch decorations!
Which is why I created these free printable Take 1 Halloween Candy signs, to keep the Trick or Treaters in check, and to compliment my porch decor!

Why do you need a Take 1 Or 2 Sign?
– Prevents a 5 minute candy clean out. Leaving the candy bowl unattended is a risk in itself, especially with no directions or limitations to the available treats. With a themed Take 1 or 2 printable, it evenly disperses the candy between trick or treaters, making it fair for everyone!
– Decorative. Not only is a printable sign practical and free, it’s the perfect addition to your front porch spectacle!
– Cute and Cost Effective. In my book, any type of freebie is an immediate ‘yes’. Especially when they’re adorable, free and helpful around the spooky season.

How to Use the Halloween Candy Sign
– Frame it. Framing your sign can add an extra layer of protection, and a decorative touch.
– Print on Card Stock. Printing your signs on a stronger piece of paper, like card stock, is a must if you are concerned about durability. The colors also tend to print better on this rather than a piece of standard printer paper. I printed my signs in the photos here on 80 lb white card stock, which still runs through my home printer without any problems.
– Laminate. Laminating your sign is important, especially if there’s rain or any harsh weather in the forecast. Plus, then you can use it year after year.

– Tape, Set up, or Stick. Taping your sign to a wall or door, setting up on a table, and sticking it to a candy bowl are all good options for display. I taped a wooden skewer to the back of my sign, and then I stuck the skewer into the back of the candy bowl to keep it secure.
– Bonus Tip: To take your porch setup up a notch, place a flashlight or battery-powered candle near the sign so it glows after dark, giving it a spooky appearance.
