This free time card printable is a great way to teach your teens responsibility as they track their hours for tasks they complete! Use it for chores, working for the family business, and more!
“Kids today don’t know the meaning of work.”
I always chuckle to myself when I hear this, especially since my kids are some of the hardest workers I know!
My 15 year old daughter has recently been helping with various business tasks for our small, home-based business, and she is learning all kinds of skills to prepare her for adulthood, including learning to “clock in and clock out” to track her hours.
I created this printable time card to keep track of her hours for when “payday” rolls around. You can use this same time card template for household chores for teens and other small jobs to help teach them about the “real world” and being paid for the work they do.
Teaching Teens About Real World Jobs
We all want our teenagers to thrive as adults, and teaching them the importance of accountability and time management is key to their success.
Helping our teens develop life skills like flexibility, teamwork, respect, and responsibility is incredibly important, and having them clock in and out for chores and household tasks is excellent practice for their first “real job.”
A time card for teens is a great way for them to see how long certain tasks take as they track their hours, and it also encourages them to manage their time wisely, prioritizing work items so they have room in their schedules for schoolwork, socializing with friends, and other activities.
Ideas for Using the Free Printable Time Cards
While I created the time card printable for our home business, it can be used in so many other ways! Here are a few ideas:
- Household chores – Use the time card template for older kids and teens who want to earn an allowance by filling out their tasks and having them track their time.
- Teaching younger kids about working – Teach your little ones about time tracking by using this time card sheet to show them that picking up their toys doesn’t take “eleventy billion years” – more like 6 minutes instead!
- Homework tracker – Have your teen log their homework time as a way to keep them accountable without you having to check in on them constantly! Reward this responsibility with a movie night with friends, gas money, or other treats.
- To Earn Screen Time – A printable time card can be a smart strategy for your kids to earn screen time. If they complete a certain number of chores per day/week, they can have extra screen time (or however you want to work it!).
How to Use the Time Cards with Your Teen
Using this printable time card is super simple! Here’s how:

- Print your time card sheet.
- Laminate the time card sheet so that you can reuse it. This is optional – you can also print out one sheet for each month.
- Use a wet or dry-erase marker to fill out the tasks your teen needs to complete in the “Work Done” column, or have them fill out their jobs as they go.
- Have your teen put the time card sheet somewhere they won’t lose it.
- Your teen fills out the sheet and turns it in at the end of the week or month.
- When it’s complete, wipe the sheet clean and reuse!
