I’ll admit it, my laundry room isn’t my favorite spot in the house. Between the ever-growing pile of clothes, the mystery stain that appeared overnight, and that one rogue sock I swear I’ve lost, it’s easy for this space to feel chaotic.

But over time, I found that having a clear, doable cleaning plan makes all the difference; suddenly, laundry feels less overwhelming and more manageable.

Below, you’ll find my go-to laundry room cleaning checklist with tasks broken out into daily, weekly, and deep cleaning sections. This way, it all feels a little less “laundry housework” and a lot more “get-in, get-it-done, and out.” And if you are looking for some other room-specific cleaning checklists, you won’t have to go far. You’ll find them right at the end of this post! Just remember, tackle one room at a time.

*Note – I created these laundry room cleaning checklists after getting so many requests from readers who loved my free printable cleaning checklists for other rooms in the house. These lists match so that you can have a full set of detailed cleaning checklists for each room!

Daily Laundry Room Cleaning Tasks

Keeping things tidy every day helps prevent laundry from spiraling into complete chaos and keeps that dreaded “laundry mountain” from taking over your life. These quick, simple tasks only take a few minutes, but they make a huge difference in keeping your laundry room functional, fresh, and ready for action.

  • Run the lint trap and wipe it down (and don’t forget to dispose of the lint!)
  • Wipe down the washer and dryer control panels, dust and soap scum build-up quickly.
  • Shake out the lint trap tray (if your machine has one).
  • Keep the floor clear, fold clothes, or toss loose bits into a laundry basket.
  • Spot-wipe any detergent or fabric softener drips on the surfaces.

Weekly Laundry Room Cleaning Tasks

Once a week, take a few extra minutes to give your laundry room a more thorough tidy-up. This deeper reset helps keep the space feeling fresh, organized, and under control, so you’re not just keeping up with the clothes, but also the room itself. Think of it as a mini refresh that makes laundry day a little less overwhelming.

  • Sweep or vacuum the floor; loose fibers and lint can pile up fast.
  • Wipe down the washer and dryer exteriors with a damp cloth.
  • Clean the door seals and detergent dispenser drawer, they collect residue.
  • Wipe down shelves, and reorganize supplies so you can find what you need easily.
  • Empty the lint trap (again!); the buildup can slow dryer efficiency.
  • Check laundry supplies: refill detergent, add fabric softener, and toss any expired pods or sheets.

Deep Cleaning the Laundry Room (Step-by-Step)

Deep cleaning your laundry room doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Instead of trying to do it all at once, break the job into small, manageable steps. Spread them out over a couple of sessions so you can work at a steady pace and still feel accomplished without burning out.

Step 1: Do Laundry

  • Wash, dry, and fold your dirty laundry so that you’re starting with a clean slate.
  • Put all your clean clothes away to help minimize the amount of “stuff” that you’ll have to work around.
  • Return laundry baskets to their proper places.
  • Iron or hang clothes as needed.

Step 2: Declutter & Reorganize

  • Take everything off the shelves, pull out the rolling cart, and clear the top of the machines.
  • Toss empty bottles or half-used supplies that are way past their prime.
  • Wipe down the inside of shelves before putting supplies back in neat rows.
  • Get rid of socks that don’t have a match.

Step 3: Clean Washer & Dryer Inside

  • Run an empty hot-water cycle with white vinegar or a washing machine cleaner.
  • Wipe the inside of both machines, including the drum and door gasket.
  • Vacuum out dry lint vents (if you have a handheld nozzle) and dust around the dryer vent area.

Step 4: Walls, Doors & Light Fixtures

  • Wipe down the walls around the machines – detergent splashes happen more often than we think.
  • Dust or clean the light fixtures and switch plates.
  • Dust wall shelves, artwork, or decorative items.
  • Wipe down the door, door knobs, and baseboards using a damp cloth.
  • Wash windows and window tracks, and clean curtains and curtain rods as needed.

Step 5: Clean Floors

  • Sweep or vacuum the floors.
  • Mop the floor with a mild cleaner or multi-surface spray.
  • Clean vent covers.
  • Shake out rug outside, or wash if needed.

Step 6: Final Touches

  • Add a deodorizer or sachet for a fresh scent.
  • Line your folding surface with a fresh towel or runner, and restock a small bin or basket for lost socks.
  • Check stock of laundry supplies and restock as needed.
  • Empty trash can and wash the inside of the bin.
