By disguising them, that’s how! Your kids will love saving their own Thanksgiving turkey from the roaster with these cute, creative, and FREE turkey disguise templates. It’s the perfect Thanksgiving activity for kids – and makes an adorable keepsake too!
What is the “Turkey Disguise” Project for Kids?
The idea behind the Turkey in Disguise project is that the turkey wants to avoid becoming the main dish for Thanksgiving. It’s your child’s mission to create a disguise for their turkey so no one will recognize it, thus helping it live to gobble another day.
The Turkey in Disguise project is a super fun Thanksgiving activity for kids of all ages! My free turkey disguise templates have several different options so that you can customize them for your child.
For toddlers, you might choose to use the color copies and just help them glue everything together. The black and white versions are also great for older kids who want to color their own turkeys!
How to Use the Printable Turkey in Disguise Template
These FREE turkey disguise templates are low-prep and easy to use. Here’s how to get started:
Supplies Needed:
- Card stock or standard printer paper
- Scissors
- Glue Stick
- Markers, crayons, or colored pencils
Step 1: Download the FREE Turkey Disguise Templates
Download the DropBox file onto your computer and save it in your Documents folder. You can also add the downloaded file to your Google Drive.
Step 2: Print the turkey disguise printables
Print the turkey in disguise template on the paper of your choice. You can ask your child to choose a specific turkey or print all of them out to give them options. It’s up to you!
I recommend printing these on card stock because it holds up better for little hands. If you plan on printing many color copies for a class activity, it might be worth it to go to your local office supply/print shop.
Step 3: Have your child color their Turkey Disguise Printable
Now comes the fun part! Your child can color their turkey disguise printable with markers, crayons, or colored pencils. It’s so fun to see how they customize their turkey and make it their own!
Step 4: Cut out the Turkey and glue it together
After your child is finished decorating their turkey, it’s time to put everything together! Have them cut out their turkey pieces and glue them together to complete their project! (If you have younger children or toddlers, you’ll need to help them with this part.)
If you printed the turkey disguise template on regular printer paper, then I recommend gluing the pieces to a piece of colored card stock like I did in the photo below. This helps the individual craft pieces lay flat, and it helps the turkey disguise project not get wrinkled or torn.
