These salami pinwheels are so easy to make with sliced salami, cream cheese, and banana peppers. Make these low carb 3 ingredient salami roll up appetizers for your next party!
So my husband just went to the doctor a few weeks ago, and he was told that he had to cut back on sugars and carbs in his diet… No bueno! Especially with football season still in full swing and a pantry full of chips and cookies.
And since he can’t watch a football game without a snack in hand, we immediately started brainstorming easy low carb appetizer ideas.
Emphasis on EASY! Y’all know I’m all about keeping things easy… especially in the kitchen. And it doesn’t get much easier than recipes that only call for 3 or 4 ingredients, like these Chicken Parmesan Bites or these Pizza Egg Rolls.
And these Salami Pinwheels are no different! With just 3 ingredients, you can make these easy low carb salami roll ups in just about 15 minutes. Perfect for party appetizers for a crowd, or just your hangry husband. 🙂
Here’s how to make them:
Ingredients for Salami Pinwheels
Here are the ingredients you need to make 2 salami roll up “logs”, which will yield you about 20 pinwheels:
- 24 slices salami
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup banana peppers, finely chopped
How to Make Salami and Cream Cheese Pinwheels
Lay out your salami on a cutting board in a flat layer, creating 3 rows of four slices like this:
You want your salami slices to overlap some because that allows you to roll up the ingredients into a log shape.
Next, spread half of the cream cheese over the salami slices, and then sprinkle half of the banana peppers on top like this:
Then, tightly roll the meat and cheese into a log shape, and wrap in plastic wrap.
Repeat this process with the remaining ingredients to form a second log.
Refrigerate both rolls for at least one hour to help them set up and hold their shapes, then slice the rolls to create salami pinwheels.
You can serve your salami roll ups with toothpicks stuck in them, to help them stay together and to also serve as a “utensil” for your low carb appetizers.
For such a simple recipe, these salami pinwheels pack a punch of flavor! And you can even make them ahead of time for the perfect easy appetizers that won’t keep you stuck in the kitchen!
Other Ingredients to Add to Your Salami Pinwheels
The possibilities are endless for these salami pinwheels! Don’t limit yourself to just three ingredients… you can even use these pinwheels as a “use up what’s leftover in the fridge” kind of snack. Here are some other yummy ingredients and variations for your salami and cream cheese roll ups:
Switch out the meats.
Instead of salami, you can try making these pinwheels with pretty much any sliced meats. Turkey, ham, roast beef, or large slices of pepperoni would all be great with this recipe.
Try a flavored cream cheese in your salami pinwheels.
Garden Vegetable or Chive and Onion cream cheeses would add an extra kick of flavor to these salami pinwheels, without adding any additional ingredients.
Add chopped olives, pickles, or roasted red peppers.
All of these extra ingredients come ready-to-go in jars, so there’s pretty much no additional prep work involved!
Add some crunch with fresh vegetables.
Diced green or red bell peppers would add a nice crunch AND some color to these salami pinwheels. Or, you can also add some chopped green onions or diced cucumbers to get some more veggie servings in.

These are so clever and look delicious!! Do you use hot banana or sweet banana peppers?

Hi! We typically use the jar that says “Mild Banana Peppers”, but any will work. These are such an easy snack or appetizer to make, and we LOVE them. 🙂

These are amazing! We made these for a housewarming party last weekend. We just wrapped up our interior painting so as soon as it was done we were ready for a party! We love a good sub sandwich and kind of wanted to serve them at our party but since it was so late we figured we should just try them as an app! Such a great idea.

Hi Kathy! Yes, these are one of my absolute favorite easy to make appetizers… Sometimes we even just make them for an afternoon snack. 🙂

What size of salami? I can get it prepackaged, about 1 1/2 inch in diameter or sliced at the deli, 2 1/2 or 3 in in diameter.
Amy says
Hi Yvonne! I would definitely go with the larger diameter slices, because your salami pinwheels will be a lot easier to roll up. Hope you enjoy them. These are one of our favorite low carb snacks ever!

So does jarred banana peppers work or should they be fresh?
Amy says
Hi Kris! We actually prefer the taste of the jarred banana peppers in this recipe… I think the vinegar-y-ness of the jarred ones compliments the salami and cream cheese really nicely. And we always have jarred in our fridge to add to wraps, salads, and homemade pizzas. 🙂
