If you loved my ‘You’ve Been Booed’ tradition, then you’ll love these Thanksgiving gift baskets! ‘You’ve Been Gobbled’ is a new take on the Halloween classic, with a fresh Thanksgiving-themed twist. Add gifts to a personalized basket, give to a friend or neighbor, and kick off a chain reaction of fun and merriment this Thanksgiving.
If you checked out my recent boo basket post, you’ll have seen my slightly embarrassing Mom confession. You know, the one where I had no idea about this huuuge TikTok craze until my teenage daughter explained it…! Well, I learned my lesson. Now I’m all over the internet’s latest trends. And my new favorite? Gobbling.
The up-and-coming trend of ‘gobbling’ someone is a fun activity similar to You’ve Been Booed. You put together a cute gift basket filled with treats, drop it on a neighbor’s porch, and they wake up to a thoughtful and unexpected surprise. Then they go on to gobble someone else, paying forward the Thanksgiving sentiment and creating a lovely ongoing community tradition.
If you’re not in a particularly close-knit or family-oriented community, it’s a great activity to introduce at work instead, for example if you’re a teacher or you work in a small, friendly office. Or what about gobbling your friendship group, kind of like Secret Santa?
The You’ve Been Gobbled trend is such a simple but effective way of creating fun and excitement for the Thanksgiving season, whether it’s with your friends, neighbors, or co-workers.
How to “Gobble” Your Friends or Neighbors
It’s so easy to introduce this new tradition to your neighborhood.
- Print gift tags – You don’t even have to write them yourself! Just print the You’ve Been Gobbled tags onto white card stock. Or, if your printer gets temperamental about anything thicker than paper (!), just print onto plain paper and mount onto colored card stock afterwards.
- Create a ‘you’ve been gobbled’ gift basket or bag – Now for the fun bit! Choose a selection of Thanksgiving-themed treats and fill a container of your choice that your friend or neighbor will love. You can let your imagine run wild, or keep it modest – it really is the thought that counts.
- Add the tag – Attach the ‘you’ve been gobbled’ printable to your bag or basket. I use curled ribbon and thread on some of the printed leaf templates from my thankful tree for decoration, but you can be as creative (or not!) as you like.
- Gobble your neighbor – Drop off the you’ve been gobbled basket or bag on your neighbor’s doorstep, and then watch the fun unfold!
What to Put in a You’ve Been Gobbled Basket
What you include in your You’ve Been Gobbled basket or bag should be tailored to your friends and neighbors, as well as your budget. If the neighbor you choose has kids, you could include more family or child-friendly items. If they have a pet, include something special for their furry friend. If you don’t know them all that well, go for something more generic like wine and cookies. There’s a “you’ve been gobbled” treat for everyone!
Here are some of my favorite ideas to get your (turkey) juices flowing!
- Thanksgiving tableware – Cute paper plates, napkins, and disposable cutlery that can be used at a community get-together, church potluck – or just for making tidying up after Thanksgiving dinner that mcuh easier!
- Fall-scented candle – I insist that everything smells like pumpkin spice at this time of year.
- Baking kit – Choose a fall or Thanksgiving-themed boxed cake, brownie, or cookie mix. If you can’t find a themed kit, grab a plain one and add in some extra themed sprinkles and toppings.
- Reusable Fall coffee cup
- Jar of chutney or jam – If you’re feeling creative, why not make your own!
- Fuzzy socks
- An alcoholic treat – We all enjoy a little glass of wine or cocktail at this time of year, right?! Well, according to the amount of ‘you’ve been boozed’ tags you guys downloaded, I’m pretty sure we do! So add a bottle of wine, some cans of good beer, or even a pre-mixed cocktail to your ‘you’ve been gobbled’ basket for a treat that can’t fail.
- Sweet treats – Candy or chocolate, everybody needs something sweet after dinner.
- Fall-themed dish towel – Make doing the dishes much more festive.
- Hot chocolate – Novelty melting stirrers, spoons, and cocoa bombs are my absolute fave at this time of year.
- Thanksgiving crafts – Keep the neighbor kids busy while their parents are slaving over a hot turkey!
- Spiced apple cider mix – A warming treat for the whole family.
- Pet treats – Don’t forget to gobble the furry friends in your lives!
You’ve Been Gobbled Poem
You’ve filled your basket with lots of lovely treats for your friend or neighbor. Now it’s time to ramp up the fun with my unique you’ve been gobbled poem! It’ll bring some humor to the basket, as well as a bit of an explanation of the tradition (you can always add more, or your own message, on the back as well).
“Gobble, gobble!” What’s that sound?
It’s a new tradition, So gather round.
Enjoy this basket of Fall goodies,
Then fill a basket for your buddies.
Let’s all exchange treats and thanks, not squabble
Because this thanksgiving YOU’VE BEEN GOBBLED!
