If you’re searching for the perfect inexpensive DIY gift to show your husband or boyfriend that you love him, then you will LOVE this “I Love You Because” Dry Erase Frame! And it couldn’t be easier to make!

This is a super easy DIY gift that I made my husband about a decade ago! And it’s still sitting on his nightstand.
The idea is simple – I added a cute printable sign that says “I love you because…” to a regular store-bought frame. Then, I use a dry erase marker to write a sweet reason why I love my husband. Every few days, we wipe off the glass with a paper towel and write a new reason why we appreciate each other.
If your husband’s Love Language is words of affirmation, then he’ll love this easy DIY gift for him. But even if he has a different Love Language, who doesn’t love being told that they’re loved?!
Supplies Needed
You only need a few basic supplies to make this DIY “I love you because” frame, most of which you probably already have in your home:
- 8″ x 10″ frame – I prefer a tabletop picture frame that can be displayed horizontally for this easy gift. If you have a smaller space to display the frame, you can also go with a 5″ x 7″ frame and use super fine tip dry erase markers.
- free printable “I love you because” sign – You can download a few different styles of signs down below!
- white card stock – I prefer using card stock for this type of printable, because it looks nicer in the frame. Regular printer paper tends to be more transparent when framed, and it could get more wrinkled.
- printer
- dry erase markers – I recommend a fine tip or even super fine tip dry erase markers for this project… especially if you want to get creative with some longer reasons why you love your man!
How to Make an I Love You Because Dry Erase Frame
Step 1: Print the “I Love You Because” sign.
You can grab the FREE printable to add to your picture frame by clicking the link down below. The “I love you because” sign is sized to fit an 8″ x 10″ frame, but you can print it on regular US Letter sized printer paper… Just be sure that your printer is set to “Actual Size”, so that the design will print out in the appropriate dimensions for an 8×10 frame.
If you want to add the printable to a smaller 5″ x 7″ frame, then use the Print settings to adjust the scale down before printing.

Step 2: Trim the printable to fit an 8″ x 10″ frame.
Trim off about 1/4″ of the paper on the left and right, and about 1/2″ on the top and bottom so that it fits inside an 8×10 frame. By doing it this way, the design will stay centered. I prefer to use a paper trimmer for this, because then the cut lines are nice and straight, but you can also use scissors.
Step 3: Place the sign in the frame.
Simply place the printable sign in the photo frame, just like you would for a regular picture. You can also use a piece of twine or string to attach a dry erase marker to the frame if you wish.
Step 4: Write sweet love messages on the frame glass.
Then, you’re ready to start using the DIY memo board to leave sweet messages for your spouse! My husband and I like to mix it up with our messages – one day we’ll write a more romantic and heartfelt note, and the next we’ll leave a funny message like “I love you because you clean the shower (because you know it’s my least favorite job).”
